Dumfries and Galloway Council are encouraging residents and business owners to attend a Street Design project for Queen Street in Dumfries.
People living on Queen Street, Mclellan Street, Cumberland Street and Brooke Street in Dumfries are being encouraged to attend an event that will mark a community-led 'Street Design' project.
The aim of the project is to work with locals to transform the streets and make them safer and more comfortable for walking and cycling.
The Street Design project launch will be held at the eastern end of Queen Street on the gap site towards Brooms Road on Saturday 27 July from 2pm until 5pm.
Residents and business owners are invited to find out more about the project and the opportunities to have a say in the direction the project takes. People attending will even be able to pick up a free potted plant for their front door step.
Street Design Project is a partnership between Dumfries and Galloway Council and charity Sustrans.
Nuria Blazquez, Project officer for the Street Design project, said: "Creating a better neighbourhood outside our front doors is something everyone cares about. It's going to be great to work with people in this part of Dumfries. Some residents have already told us about their wishes to see improvements in the maintenance of the street and their concerns with road safety.
"We look forward to helping them make a real difference to the streets in their neighbourhood and encourage people to come along to the launch event on the 27th of July."
Chairman of the Council's Housing Sub Committee, Councillor Jim McClung added: "This Street Design project is an important part of our plans to deliver a Housing Regeneration Area in Queen Street. Our approach is to encourage residents and affected businesses to get involved so that the street improvement plans are developed by the people who live and work there.
"It is very much a community led initiative and we hope as many people as possible will take part. I hope that this project, alongside other actions we are in the process of taking forward, will make Queen Street a much more attractive place for locals and visitors."
