Teams of council workers in Renfrewshire are to launch a 72-hour programme in order to complete the resurfacing of a crucial road junction in Paisley.
The work at the junction between Canal Street and Causeyside Street will start on the evening of Friday 2 August and will continue night and day until it is finished - weather permitting - on Monday 5 August.
It is intended that each phase of work can be completed prior to midnight each night, but in case of adverse weather, plans have been made to work through the night if necessary.
Councillor Eddie Devine, Convener of Renfrewshire Council's Environment Policy Board, commented: "The failing road surface and subsidence at the junction between Canal Street and Causeyside Street means there is no alternative but to completely resurface it.
"Unfortunately, we can't do the work in phases so our plan is to work night and day to resurface the junction as quickly as possible and keep the disruption to a minimum. We are going to work over the Paisley Fair when there is less traffic.
"Normally we would try and avoid working during the night in a built up area but we will try and keep the noise down as much as possible.
"I'd ask local residents and motorists to bear with us while we tackle this major project. This year we are investing more money than ever before in repairing Renfrewshire's roads and this project is long overdue."
The road works will affect local bus services on the Causeyside Street - Neilston Road route between Gordon Street and Lochfield Road, and the Council is arranging for a shuttlebus to operate on this section of road to maintain links with the main bus services.
The latest road works are part of Renfrewshire Council's biggest ever investment in road maintenance. The programme will see a total of £5.7m being spent on the area's roads during 2013/14.
