Work is continuing on a £2.3m project in Ardrossan which will help support people to live independent lives.
Once completed, the building and refurbishment work at Currie Court will provide a modern sheltered housing complex and 13 two-apartment houses.
Work on the project began on-site in January and has a scheduled completion date of October 2013.
Previously, the site was occupied by three units – sheltered housing, a linked residential unit and a day care centre. The existing sheltered housing complex is now being completely refurbished as part of the project, while refurbishment works include the installation of new kitchens and wet-rooms for each property as well as upgrading the residents' communal areas and kitchen.
Energy efficiency measures are also being carried out to reduce running costs and tackle fuel poverty, including re-roofing and applying insulated render to the exterior of the building.
On the 13 two-apartment houses, work is also progressing and a staff base has been included in the design as part of the supported living accommodation.
The base will be staffed 24 hours a day, every day of the year, allowing staff to assist residents with a range of needs or disabilities in the supported living accommodation. The complex is also being re-roofed and re-rendered, with some external landscaping also taking place.
North Ayrshire Council's Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, Councillor Anthea Dickson visited the site with the Council's Head of Housing Olga Clayton.
Councillor Dickson said: "This development will provide modern accommodation and care support for individuals who need it. We want to provide services and support for people to help them live as full and independent lives as possible.
"This work will modernise the sheltered housing complex and create high quality supported tenancies. We are responding to the needs of our communities by building for the future and changing how we provide care, support and housing for those who need it.
"This is an excellent development for North Ayrshire and I look forward to seeing the completed complex."
