A series of proposals to strengthen Stirling city centre's place at the heart of the community has been welcomed by the Council's Finance and Economy Committee.
At a meeting last week, Councillors agreed on a strategy and action plan developed in consultation with businesses and communities, which is designed to improve economic, environmental and social wellbeing in the core of the city.
Key objectives of the plan include improving shopping, reducing the number of vacant units, protecting and enhancing historic buildings, creating more city centre housing and improving links between the Castle and the commercial hub of the city.
Finance and Economy Committee Convener, Councillor Neil Benny, said: "This is a programme for action that has been developed through extensive consultation with local people and businesses, and that we'll take forward in partnership with them.
"Our city centre has a magnificent historical heritage and huge potential for the future. The new strategy describes a vision for the city centre over the next five years and beyond, with plans to improve its commercial and cultural vibrancy and deliver benefits for residents, businesses and visitors."
Recent achievements in the central Stirling area include the Burghmuir retail complex, ongoing hotel developments, and the 'Made in Stirling' outlet for 30 creative businesses in King Street.
Earlier this year, Stirling Council also supported and funded a 'Start-up Street' CityLab.
The pop-up pilot project, run by Icecream architecture, was a high street hub offering advice, support, free working and meeting space and wifi for ventures wishing to move into the
city centre.
