Dunfermaline High School has won two awards at The Royal Incorporation of Architects (RIAS) in Scotland Awards 2013.

The awards, which were held earlier this week, recognise architectural achievement in Scotland.

Fife Council's Property Services collected the award for their design of Dunfermline High School. The architects set out to design a bright, attractive and stimulating environment were young people would feel respected and value, with the building described as "open, transparent and easily understood, creating a sense of community and encouraging educational attainment".


The school also won the Zero Waste Scotland award for resource efficiency.

Zero Waste Scotland Director Iain Gulland said: "I am delighted to announce Fife Council Property Services as the winner of the Resources Efficiency award.

"They have shown a commendable effort in ensuring that resource efficiency is integrated into the design of the school, from the initial construction to the performance use and disposal of materials at the end of life."

Alan Paul, Senior Manager (Property Services) added: "Recognition by our peers is an important part of our continuous improvement.

"Winning these awards highlights the excellent work we are carrying out and the benefits we are bringing to the communities of Fife."
