Dundee City Council is expected to meet today to discuss plans for three new schools in the area.

The Council's Education Committee is meeting after a wide consultation with parents.

Plans for the new primary and nursery schools in Coldside, Menzieshill and Strathmartine have been out for discussion along with a replacement facility for Baldragon Academy.

With regards to Coldside, the committee is being asked to approve a shared campus at the site of the former Alexander Street multis for Our Lady's and Rosebank primaries, as well as a replacement for Frances Wright Pre-School Centre, while in Menzieshill, the proposal is to build a new three- stream primary to take in the current Gowriehill and Hillside primaries, along with a new nursery to replace Menzieshill Nursery School.

In Strathmartine, the focus will be on replacement dwellings for Sidlaw View Primary and Jessie Porter Nursery, as well as a new Baldragon Academy.

Education convener Councillor Stewart Hunter said: "Parents and families have been able to take part in a thorough consultation process and issues were raised that we will take into consideration.

"These are very exciting times for everyone connected with these schools and I am keen that pupils can benefit from state of the art facilities in the future.

"This would represent a further massive investment in education buildings of around £40 million.

"These schools are an important part of the council’s drive to regenerate the city and improve communities."
