Edinburgh Council are reminding residents to submit their views regarding a consultation on land development in and around the capital before it closes.

The consultation is due to close this Friday at 5pm.

The Council's proposed Local Development Plan outlines its policies and proposals to help guide development within the city, and will be used to "provide a clear and fair basis for planning decisions" as the capital continues to grow.

According to Scottish Housing News, there has been concerns raised regarding the development plan with some fearing it will affect areas of greenbelt land.


Alison Johnstone, Green MSP for Lothian, said: "Edinburgh needs housing but I'm concerned the council's plan relies too much on greenbelt land.

"People at Cammo near the airport and in south-eastern districts like Gilmerton and Broomhills are rightly questioning what's going on.

"It seems to me there are plenty of brownfield sites and other areas of land that developers have banked but not built on that we could be prioritising.

"We need to retain green spaces for leisure and health, and farmland for growing food. We must ensure developments are sustainable both in terms of the efficiency of the buildings and in terms of making it easy to walk, cycle or catch a bus to work, school and shops."

Ms Johnstone also called on the council to engage with local residents about the scale and location of any proposed developments.
