A new social housing development in Ayr has received support from the Scottish Government.
The £1.2m project, which is being delivered in partnership by South Ayrshire Council and Robertson Homes, will see 15 new apartments constructed at Seaforth Road.
The scheme will also support 30 jobs during the construction phase and has been commissioned to help address the need for quality social housing in Ayr.
Once completed, the development will include three one-bedroom and nine two-bedroom apartments to meet the needs of local couples and young families, while there will also be three one-bedroom ground floor apartments specifically designed for wheelchair users. These properties will be pre-allocated before completion to allow residents to adapt features, fixtures and fittings to meet their individual needs.
Margaret Burgess, Scottish Government Minister for Housing and Welfare, visited the site ahead of the construction work and said: "The Scottish Government has a target to deliver 30,000 affordable homes in the lifetime of this Parliament. We have said that at least 20,000 of these will be social for rent including 5,000 new council homes.
"The start of the Kings Park development is another positive step forward in our shared commitment to achieve these aims and to deliver new high quality social rented housing in Ayr.
"House building positively supports the construction sector, which helps to create skilled jobs and stimulate economic growth.
"It is very encouraging to see the partnership working between Robertson Homes and the council in bringing the project to this stage and for taking it forward to completion."
The development is expected to be completed in early 2014.
