A new affordable housing development has officially opened in East Dunbartonshire.

The development by Link Groups is located at Auchinairn Gate, Bishopbriggs, and was opened by Council Depute Leader and Housing Convenor, Councillor Ashay Ghai.

Work started on the £5m project in September 2011 using funding provided by the Scottish Government and East Dunbartonshire Council and includes 46 properties for social rent.

The 46 buildings, including eight for the Council, consist of four and five bedroom houses, one three bedroom house for a wheelchair user and three bedroom flats.


Designed and built by McTaggart Construction, the properties meet Link’s high design standards for affordable housing.

Each home has gas central heating and hot water systems, high thermal insulation and double glazing to create warm, comfortable and energy efficient homes that will be easy and economical to run.

Peter Foreman, Link Group Chairman, said: "These high quality homes will contribute to increasing the supply of affordable housing in Bishopbriggs and we look forward to continuing to work with the local community and East Dunbartonshire Council in the future."

Councillor Ghai added: "East Dunbartonshire still has a considerable shortfall of affordable housing so it is wonderful to see a development like this completed and providing much needed accommodation for local people."
