Work has started on a multi-million pound housing development in Edinburgh.
The project, which is part of a £10m investment by Home Scotland, will increase the provision of affordable homes in the area.
Phase two of the Kirkliston Village development will deliver 81 new affordable homes for local people. They have been part funded from the Scottish Government’s Housing Association Grant with 39 homes exclusively for those in need of social housing and 42 for mid market rent.
Kirkliston Village is a major housing master plan, which will see the construction of more than 600 new homes over the next 18 months, 25% of which are to be affordable Housing Association units. The homes are a mix of two and three-bedroom houses, cottage apartments and apartments, and will be built in the North of Kirkliston with all properties designed to the latest building and energy efficiency standards including renewable energy in the form of photo voltaic roof tiles.
Douglas McLeod, Managing Director Barratt East Scotland, said: "We are delighted to have secured our second contract to design and build 81 new affordable homes which will form Phase 2 of Kirkliston Village. We have worked closely with Home Scotland on this project and look forward to a successful partnership."
Graeme Gemmell, Home Scotland’s Assistant Project Manager, added: "These properties will deliver much needed homes to families from the local area who are in need of affordable housing.
"Home Scotland is a not for profit housing provider. We’re committed to providing modern energy efficient homes but we’re also interested in building thriving communities and we’re sure that the families who come here will enjoy living here for years to come."
In addition to building the new development, the consortium has made a contribution to City of Edinburgh Council for education, road improvements and transport.
