£37m Upgrade For Easter Ross Quay

Construction News Image
Global Energy Group has said it plans to invest £37m to upgrade its Nigg yard facility at Easter Ross.

The engineering firm, which has been at the site since 2011, is understood to have submitted paperwork to the Highland Council and Marine Scotland to be given approval for the improvements, The Scotsman has said.

If the green light is given, the upgrade would see the South Quay rejuvenated with 1,000m of deep-water quayside made available for shipping at Nigg Energy Park.

Since moving to the site, the firm has become a hub for the renewable energy sector, with the oil and gas industries also benefitting from the facilities.

The site is used as a base for refitting oil rigs and servicing the renewable energy sector.

Since acquiring the site 18 months ago, the group says it has attracted £100m of new business to the Highland economy.

Work on its Easter Ross site has, so far, included the upgrading of the existing facilities, the demolition of several old and dilapidated buildings, as well as the recycling of some 32,000 tonnes of materials re-used on site and landscaping.
