Work Completed On 'Fairways' Housing Project

Work on a new build project in Ardenslate has been completed by Argyll Community Housing Association (ACHA).

The 'Fairways' project saw a total of 24 flats built on land previously owned by Cowal Golf Club, with 16 one-bedroom and eight two-bedroom affordable properties for rent. The new properties are located on what used to be the 18th hole of the course, leading to the chosen name of the development.

The total cost of the build was more than £2.6m, which was part financed by a Scottish Government grant fund of around £1.6m. However, the development is just part of a larger scale building project proposed by the developer and the remaining areas of the site have been ear marked for future private housing development, consisting of five blocks of flats, further road infrastructure and landscaping.

The land was purchased from Argyll Properties (2009) Limited, who originally purchased the land from Cowal Golf Club, with sub-contractors Nodram Ltd delivering the build.

Opening the development, Councillor George Freeman said: "I was absolutely delighted to be able to formally open the Fairways development which will provide much need housing within the Dunoon area. This is another excellent example of the high standard of housing that is being delivered across Argyll & Bute through the close partnership working between the Council and ACHA."
