Work has started on the next phase of Port Glasgow's Gallagher Shopping Centre.
BAM Construction has been appointed by the owner and developer of the land – Gallagher – to build a new £10m complex on the site.
The new facilities include retail spaces, a restaurant and cafe.
The store, understood to be for B&Q, will comprise of 65,000 sq ft and will also have an external garden centre, business yard and 340-space car park.
Inverclyde Council welcomed the news and Council Leader, Councillor Stephen McCabe, said: "This is a welcome day for Port Glasgow and Inverclyde, marking a significant moment in the economic regeneration of the town. This investment shows real confidence in the future prosperity of Port Glasgow and reflects the effort and enthusiasm being shown by the Council, our partners and business."
Gallagher’s Chairman, Tony Gallagher, added that the firm was currently in discussions with a number of tenants regarding the remaining 220,000 sq ft of floor space.
To date, Gallagher has invested more than £40m in Port Glasgow. The work includes the realignment of the A8 trunk road, providing a new civic square, undertaking environmental improvements to the foreshore of the River Clyde, and delivering a 110,000 sq ft Tesco Extra store.
