The restoration works to Hungryside Bridge in Torrance saw the canal closed for three months, while traffic was restricted to single file.
The work was carried out by the Council's contractor, Diack and Macauley Ltd and included:
- installation of new structural steelwork to strengthen footpaths
- replacement of corroded structural steelwork
- replacement of bridge expansion joints
- installation of vehicle containment parapets and barriers
- blast cleaning and painting of all remaining steelwork
- waterproofing of bridge deck
Councillor Alan Moir, Convener of the Council's Development & Infrastructure Committee, said: "The works to this bridge represent a significant investment by the Council and while I know the traffic restrictions were inconvenient for people in the area, the work was essential and I believe the results are worthwhile.
"Not only has the structure of the bridge been reinforced to make it safer for users but it has benefited from a facelift that is a boost to the surrounding area.
"This £300k investment in Hungryside Bridge demonstrates the Council's commitment in these challenging financial times to maintaining and improving its road network."
