First Phase Of £3.7m Community Hub Complete

The first phase of a £3.7m state-of-the-art community hub in Fraserburgh has been completed.

The multi-purpose building incorporates Westfield School, Fraserburgh Family Resource Centre and the Westfield Community Wing and will provide a range of services to the local community.

The community wing of the project was launched on Tuesday and will support a nursery for children up to the age of three. It will be staffed and managed within the school and will have 10 places available throughout the academic year.

The newly-constructed wing showcases a soft play area, toilets, wet room and sleeping area. It will also feature an upgraded entrance area with improved access arrangements, alterations to the changing rooms and access to a medical room, as well as a general redecoration of the school.

The second phase of the project will see the creation of an outdoor play and learning area.

Work will continue on the development of the Family Resource Centre at the site, with an expected completion date of March 2014.

Chair of Aberdeenshire Council’s Education, Learning and Leisure Committee, Councillor Isobel Davidson, said: "This is a very exciting time for all of those involved in this project, as well as for the wider community.

"The availability of this integrated, tailored service will be a huge bonus for families and shows the council’s commitment to improving the early years' provision in Aberdeenshire."
