Plans have been submitted to build a new multi-million pound golf course in Scotland.

If permission is granted by North Ayrshire Council, 'The Ayrshire' at Marine Drive, Irvine, will be an 18-hole links pay-and-play course, website Golf Club Management has said.

The £60m development, will also feature holiday homes, a hotel, a clubhouse, professional's shop, spa, restaurant and conference facilities and will be spread over 171 acres.


A spokesman for the project said: "The project will be developed by The Ayrshire Golf Company, a joint venture between property investment and development company Credential Holdings and KPT.

"The new course will be designed by acclaimed gold architects Glen Golf Design, who's principal designer was involved in creations including The Castle course in St Andrews, Machrihanish Dunes at Kintyre and the celebrated Bandon Dunes in Oregon."

The spokesman added that construction of the par-70 golf course would take around 20 months to complete and involve at least 250 construction jobs. Once completed. The development would require around 90 full-time and 45 part-time staff, ranging from greenkeepers to caddies and hotel managers.
