Work Begins On New Community Facility

Construction work is to begin on a new community facility in Boghall after building plans received the green light.

West Lothian Council approved the plans on Thursday.

The project will see the existing community building near Boghall Primary School being demolished and replaced with a community facility extension which will be joined onto the school. The site has been identified to the east of the primary school with pedestrian access being available off Marina Drive.

The new community wing will include changing facilities, additional classrooms and car parking.

A café, youth drop-in centre, IT suite, public toilets, family area, meeting room and a courtyard garden - complete with terrace and café - will also be constructed as part of the build, along with outdoor play areas.

Council Leader John McGinty said: "The new facility at Boghall Primary School will have a distinct identity and will act as a focal point for the local community. Local residents are well aware that new facilities are needed and I'm sure the people of Boghall will warmly welcome this news.

"West Lothian Council has a comprehensive list of community facilities across the county which will benefit from significant investment over the next five years. Central to each of them is the need to develop facilities that meet their community's needs and be a focus of civic pride."

The project is expected to cost around £1.9m and work is expected to be completed by early 2014.
