Edinburgh Council has unveiled details of upgrading works for a number of schools across the city.

The works are expected to be carried out in the coming year.

The £7.1m investment will see a variety of works undertaken, including roofing repairs, stonework, new boiler plant, fire safety and general upgrading taking place.

Councillor Alasdair Rankin, Finance and Budget Committee Convener, said: "It is important we ensure our schools meet Scottish Government standards. With an estate as large as this we need to invest money every year to ensure all our schools are fit for purpose and providing the learning environment our pupils need."


Education Convener, Councillor Paul Godzik, added: "I know a lot of schools will welcome this news, we aim to make sure schools are receiving the investment they need as well as looking to future demand.

"An investment of £1.5million is being put into Portobello High School this year, when we had hoped building the school would be well underway by now. We have to respond to the challenges that arise and we remain committed to building this new school as soon as possible."

Recently, a further £10.5m was set aside to fund further school improvements from this year's budget.

Details of how the funding will be spent will be provided at a future date.
