New £502k Pitch Investment For St Ninian's

A new £502k all-weather pitch is to be built at St Ninian's High School.

The construction work is expected to start later this year, with the new synthetic surface replacing the current blaes pitch at the school.

Funding for the new facility was approved as part of East Renfrewshire Council's budget earlier this year.

Once the work is complete, pupils will be able to use the pitch all year round, and will be used during school hours and for extra-curricular activities at nights and weekends.

The blaes surface currently on the school's sports pitch is rarely used due to its poor condition. It is also often unplayable during bad weather.

Paul O'Kane, convenor of education and equalities, welcomed the plans to replace the old surface with a new generation pitch.

He said: "This is a very welcome boost for St Ninian's High School. The old blaes pitch is not really fit for purpose and is rarely used, so this will be tremendous for the pupils.

"Ensuring our schools have first-class sports facilities is of paramount importance. This all-weather surface is state-of-the-art and will make a real difference to the school both during class time and for extra-curricular activities, particularly the Easter and summer sports camps."

The pitch is due for completion within the financial year.
