GVA RGA has secured planning consent for a new 112 bedroom hotel development on behalf of its client Goldserve Ventures, who own the former Inn on the Green hotel building in the east end of Glasgow.
The historic building, dating back to the 1850s, has been vacant for around five years since the previous hotel, something of a Glasgow institution, closed.
The original Inn overlooking Glasgow Green will be retained, with the six-storey hotel constructed behind featuring a bar, restaurant, lounge and meeting room facilities. BDL, one of the UK’s largest hotel operators, will manage the hotel – which will be a major branded property - on behalf of the owners.
The hotel is located at the heart of the up and coming east end, which is undergoing massive redevelopment to raise its profile in the lead up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games. An extensive regeneration programme is currently underway, which hopes to transform the socio-economic characteristics of the area and give the East End a dramatic makeover. The new hotel will be at the forefront of the regeneration, generating new jobs and helping to revitalise the local area, and well situated to benefit from the long-term legacy of the Commonwealth Games and major future sporting events.
GVA RGA assisted Goldserve Ventures in the initial stages of this exciting project, undertaking a feasibility study to assess the viability, likely performance, operation and suitability of the site, for which the results were positive. Goldserve Ventures Ltd. has since appointed Primesite Developments Ltd. to deliver the project and all major sub-contractors are in place, with construction due to start imminently.
