Dundee’s central conservation area could be in line for an extension, provided councillors back a consultation.
The city development committee is to be asked to support a six-week period to allow interested parties to give their views on the changes.
Proposals would include adding North Linsday Street, more of Ward Road, West Bell Street, King Street, the site of the former Podium Block at the bottom of Crichton Street and the area of the Customs House in Dock Street.
The current central conservation area includes many varying architectural styles, including Georgian and Art Deco.
The City Churches, McManus Galleries, St Paul’s Cathedral and Dundee High School are of particular note.
Many planned streets also exist in the area, including the neo-classical Reform Street (1832) and Commercial Street (1871).
Both streets were built as part of a drive to improve the city underway at that time.
Open space features heavily in the form of City Square, around McManus Galleries and the Howff.
Dundee currently has 17 conservation areas, as a means to ensure new developments do not have a negative impact on the city’s existing character.
Will Dawson, city development convener said: "The new boundary contains a mix of attractive properties that would enhance the character and appearance of the central conservation area including historic and well designed modern ones.
"But the proposal is not about individual buildings, many of which on their own would not be of significant architectural or historical merit, it’s about the streetscape taken as a whole and the importance of the area to the city and the country as a whole."
