SHR Publishes East Renfrewshire Asset Recommendations

The Scottish Housing Regulator (SHR) has published a report of recommendations on East Renfrewshire Council's housing service's approach to asset management.

The SHR report covers a range of issues. As announced by the group, the inquiry's recommendations are that the Council should:

- complete its survey work and option appraisal of non-residential but housing related

assets, presently held on the Council's Housing Revenue Account (HRA);

- ascertain whether further structural work is necessary in order to secure the future

of its non-traditionally constructed properties;

- better understand the profile of its current tenants in order to plan for their present

and future housing needs;

- improve its IT system associated with its asset management;

- explicitly demonstrate linkages between the Housing Asset Management Plan, its

allocated resources and the Council's corporate priorities; and

- ensure that consultation documents are presented in a manner appropriate for their

proposed audience.

Lesley Kerr, Acting Head of Inspection at the Scottish Housing Regulator, said: "The Council has made good progress. We found that the Council now has a good appreciation of the condition of its houses and the work necessary to bring them up to the Scottish Housing Quality Standard. Our report identifies a small number of areas where the Council could further improve its approach."
