Fife Council has approved new planning guidance for public consultation which will help to enhance and supporting existing green spaces in the area.
The approval of the Green Infrastructure Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) follows the Fife Greenspace Strategy in November 2010.
Fife Council’s Housing & Communities Committee has approved the SPG to help increase access to greenspace in or around Fife’s settlements.
Councillor Kay Carrington, executive member for Business, Enterprise, Economy & Planning welcomed the report and said: "This guidance will help ensure that any new development creates successful places that connect to and enhance existing green networks.
"It will set clear guidance on what is expected of the site assessment process, include principles for the design of green infrastructure and development requirements for long term stewardship. It also provides a method of evaluating the quality of proposals.
"We want to encourage a mix of higher quality green spaces to be provided through new development in Fife’s towns and villages which will create well located attractive spaces that encourage activity and people use, thereby improving the Quality of Life for Fife’s residents."
The draft SPG will be published on Fife Council’s website for public consultation from 14 January 2013 for eight weeks until 15 March 2013.
Comments will then be answered by the Council, whereupon a report will be brought back to a future committee to seek approval to publish the SPG.
