Rothes Halls' To Get £13,000 Facelift

Approval has been given to deliver a facelift to Fife’s Rothes Halls theatre and conference venue.

The Glenrothes Area Committee has agreed to inject £12,933 from the area budget to undertake improvements to the Rothes Halls Side Entrance.

The news follows the submission of plans to vastly improve the external entrance to the venue, at the west of Kingdom Shopping Centre.

The development will see clearer signage put in place to draw attention to the entrance way.

Creative lighting will also be installed under the canopy, while digital screens will display information about events happening in the Rothes Halls and other town centre events.

There will also be minor improvements undertaken; namely to the windows of the bridge link between the venue and the multi-storey car park in a bid to improve the aesthetics of the area and create better lighting.

This first phase is expected to be finished by Spring 2013.

Councillor William Kay, Glenrothes Area Committee Chair, said "These designs were developed by artists Neville Rae and Scott Laverie with input from Fife Council, ON at Fife, Kingdom Shopping Centre and the public. They form part of a wider Council-led action plan to improve Glenrothes Town Centre."

He added "A second phase to develop new seating, lighting and public art are still subject to funding and this will be reviewed once Phase 1 is underway."

David Cooper, secretary of the Glenrothes Area Futures Group commented: "We have long recognised the need to strengthen the town centre’s evening offer, and we are pleased that the Town Centre Action Plan seeks to address this. The Rothes Halls is an important community and cultural facility and we hope that this investment will help to develop more evening activity in future."
