Glasgow is currently on the lookout for a contractor to construct a new temporary running track at Hampden Park for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The new track and field warm-up facility will cost £14m and the tender has already been sent out.
It will include work to create the temporary facility at Lesser Hampden, the football pitch which adjoins the national stadium.
Glasgow 2014 chiefs have already announced that Hampden will not be hosting football matches ahead of the Games from November 2013.
The contract for the new development will include the construction of a "field of play" for athletics events at the stadium, a warm up section at Hampden’s south stand, wheel chair seating and accessibility modifications.
The revamp will also see additional lighting and scoreboard facilities created, as well as a further contract for the company to return the two venues back to their current condition post-Games.
The deadline for the applications is the end of the month, with organisers hoping to select the winning contractor by January.
The temporary track will raise the surface of Hampden arena and create a 44,000-seater stadium, returning to its 52,000 capacity following the end of the Games.
Last week the City Council announced that 69% of people surveyed in the UK believe staging the 2018 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Glasgow would inspire a generation of young people beyond London 2012.
The news came as Glasgow submitted its YOG bid to the International Olympic Committee.
