A new children’s centre which was part of a £1.3m extension development was officially opened on Thursday October 11.
Inverclyde Council’s Children’s Centre was opened in Gourock after an extensive refurbishment of the former Binnie Street Community Centre.
The building was revamped and is now the Binnie Street Children’s Centre, described by the council as "a first class learning environment delivering high quality education and care for children in Inverclyde."
Education and Communities Convener, Councillor Terry Loughran said: "This investment marks part of Inverclyde Council’s commitment to providing quality care and learning facilities for children and young people in Inverclyde and it is fantastic to see how the building has been transformed, creating a wonderful environment for children to begin their educational journeys.
"The centre is not only a tremendous asset to the current local community, but will also provide a lasting legacy for learning for future generations."
The new facility will bring together three early years services; Gourock Pre-5 Centre, Gamble Children’s Centre and Gourock Park Pre-School and will now include nursery provision for 120 children aged 3 – 5 years and Out of School care services for 32 children from 5-12 years.
A range of activities will also be available at the centre, including a number of groups and classes, parenting support, community events and children’s learning experiences.
The new centre, which includes playrooms, a library and outdoor play area, opened to local children on 20 August 2012.
