Fife Council have approved another application by drinks conglomerate Diageo Scotland to develop a large site at Begg Farm in Kirkcaldy.
The new development will consist of 276,000 sqm of bonded warehouses and associated buildings, along with the required functionary structures.
The new site will be situated between the A92 dual carriageway and the east of the village of Cluny.
Diageo are reported to have considered a total of six potential sites near Fife, before selecting Begg Farm due to its proximity to existing operations, including the distillery at Cameronbridge.
Councillor Kay Carrington, Executive Member for Business, Enterprise, Economy & Planning welcomed the development remarking:
“This large scale year storage facility complements the recent increase in capacity at Diageo’s Cameronbridge and Leven facilities and reinforces the real commitment that Diageo is making to Fife.
“By putting in place the logistics for the distillery, the bottling plant and now the warehousing this reinforces Diageo’s confidence in Fife as a place that is easy to do Business.
“We are really pleased that Diageo has chosen Fife as they looked at numerous other sites across Scotland before making their decision. The company has established good local community involvement and is an excellent employer and this further investment by Diageo will give even greater confidence to the Fife economy.”
