Local residents are being invited to view plans for a new community campus in Alford.

Plans to create a new academy, primary school and swimming pool will go on show in Alford Community Centre on Tuesday, September 25, from 3pm to 7.30pm.

Aberdeenshire Council is urging local residents to come along to the event to view the draft plans for the development and take the opportunity to discuss them with architects and council officers.


Councillors backed a proposal to combine plans for the new schools last year in order to allow both to be built at the same time and it is expected the project could be completed by the end of 2016.

The scheme would involve a new 640-pupil academy, 325-pupil primary, and a four lane, 25 metre swimming pool.

The campus would also feature a community library, external sports facilities and accommodation for community learning and development activities.

Combining the projects reduced the cost of the scheme by £207,225, with the overall campus expected to cost £40,347,000. The construction of a £3million relief road is included within the costs.
