South Ayrshire Council have installed new safety railings at the new play area at Garvine Road, Coylton.
Earlier in the year, local residents had used a public consultation exercise on roads, held at the Citadel in Ayr, to voice concerns that a small number of young people using the play area had been seen running onto the road, even though the facility was set well back from the road itself.
At the same time, local councillor Sandra Goldie was in touch with Council road safety officers to see if a solution could be found to the problem
A set of staggered railings was installed on either side of the footpath between the play area and the road.
The railings make it difficult for excited children to run straight from the path at the play area and out onto the road and, according to the children themselves, the railings have been a welcome addition, safeguarding a very popular play facility.
Councillor Sandra Goldie commented: "The young people here are thrilled and every one of them has given the new railings an enthusiastic thumbs-up.
"Garvine Road can get very busy with cars and many children from the local area use the play facilities.
"However, excited children do not always stop and think about traffic when running to, or from, the play area, so I'm sure the new railings will go a long way to keep them and other road users from harm."
