A £50,000 project to re-align disabled parking bays in Aberdeen begins this week.

More than 1,000 bays across the city will be altered to bring them into line with new Scottish Government legislation. Contractor Mark-On will carry out the first phase of the work, which is expected to take about three months to complete.

The on-street disabled bays will no longer be dedicated to a particular person or household, but for the use of all blue badge holders. They will be longer than the existing bays to improve wheelchair access.


All those who have a dedicated disabled parking bay on the road near their home will receive a letter about it from Aberdeen City Council.

Disabled drivers or those with a disabled member of the household will be asked to move their vehicles on the day the re-aligning work, which is weather dependent, is carried out. It is not possible to re-align the bay around a vehicle.

No-waiting cones will be placed around the bays the evening before the work is due to be carried out. Motorists are asked to pay heed to the cones and not move them. The work cannot be carried out if vehicles are parked too close to the bays.
