A construction company or developer is needed to build a zero-waste house on the site of the former Ravenscraig Steelworks in Lanarkshire.
Working in partnership with Zero Waste Scotland, they will deliver a highly innovative yet affordable resource-efficient house, at 2016 Scottish Building Standards Gold Level - a project that could position them as a market-leader in Scotland’s future housing developments.
The successful development partner or consortium will construct the house on a development plot funded by Zero Waste Scotland at the BRE Innovation Park in the former Ravenscraig site.
Selected build materials and fit out furnishings will be made available to the Development Partner on a free issue basis to support the construction of the house.
The House will then be showcased as part of the Park for at least two years and its design showcased in the Lighthouse in Glasgow.
The development partner will also be required to deconstruct the house and ensure that the materials are re-used or recycled where possible.
A spokesperson said that if all of the 17,112 new homes built in Scotland last year had sent zero waste to landfill, it is estimated this would have saved the industry more than £4m.
An information day will be held on 15 August between 10am - 1pm at the James Watt Centre in East Kilbride. To book a space email Katy Hunter at hunterk@bre.co.uk.
Applications will be open for a few weeks from Friday September 17.
