Warning: Rogue Home Improvement Company

Householder have been warned to take care when buying home improvement services, after Scambusters uncovered a series of misleading claims.

The Scottish Scambusters Team is currently investigating complaints from across the country against a firm implying it is associated with the genuine company Everest.

Leaflets delivered nationwide say that the company has been a market leader for sixteen years, but this is not the case and further investigations revealed no business registered at the Dundee address given on the leaflet.

Representatives of the company have also attempted to pressure customers into signing away their right to cancellation within seven days.

Scambusters have been told that some company reps demanded full cash payments on the day and become aggressive if the money is not produced.

Trading Standards and Scottish Scambusters have advised householders not to buy anything based on a cold call or a leaflet drop.

Anyone thinking about making a major purchase should check the market and get at least three quotes from reputable companies before deciding to go ahead.

Citizens Advice Scotland can provide helpful information to anyone before they enter into any arrangement for a service to be provided or installed. CAS can be contacted on 08454 040506.

Dundee City Council added that people in the city should use a firm affiliated to the city council's Trusted Trader Scheme, for peace of mind about their competence.
