A planned waste management centre in Glasgow could recycle waste and make energy from it.
Planning applications are in for the proposed South Clyde Energy Centre, a £145m facility that would deal with up to 250,000 tonnes of waste a year and include an education centre.
If successful, it could provide energy to a number of buildings around the site, fitting with the potential District Heating Zone identified in the latest version of the Glasgow City Plan.
The Recyclables Recovery Facility would take black bag household waste and remove recyclable materials before creating a refuse derived fuel (RDF) from the leftover waste.
The Energy Recovery Facility, the second part of the site, would burn the waste to provide heat, using Energy from Waste technology regulated by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.
A statement by developers Peel Environmental said the proposed South Clyde Energy Centre will play a vital role in the multimillion pound regeneration planned for the area, creating about 350 construction jobs including initiatives to get people into work, and "up to 45" full time positions once the centre was open.
But it reminded jobseekers that the project was in the early stages, saying: "We are keen to ensure that we don't build up any false hopes but all of the details of people who contact us about jobs will be kept."
The fate of the project depends on the decision of Glasgow councillors.
As a city, Glasgow generates nearly 400,000 tonnes of municipal waste a year.
