The mechanical and electrical fit out of a laboratory building at Edinburgh's BioQuarter has been completed.

Scottish Enterprise opened the bio-incubator and multi-occupancy life science building, known as Nine, in the complex.

The four-year-old BioQuarter complex offers facilities for companies in the bio-pharmaceutical industry for research and clinical work.

Infrastructure, support services and construction group Robertson was responsible for the £3m fit out, which included installing ventilation, power data systems wiring, hot water outputs and lab gas installations as well as putting in high quality lab furniture such as autoclave cleaning systems and putting in place partition walls and ceilings to section up the lab space.


Contractors fitted an incubator unit and 25 offices in a project that took 30 weeks.

Bob Gray of Robertson said: "We have produced a state-of-the-art laboratory suite suitable for the needs of technicians and scientists to work at the heart of Scotland’s world-leading life sciences industry."

Work on Nine, BioQuarter was supported by a £12m investment from the UK Strategic Investment Fund and matched funding of £12 million from Scottish Enterprise.
