Crane Arrives At Antonine Care Home Site

A state-of-the-art £9.1m care facility has started rising from the ground on a former Roman site.

The arrival of a tower crane on site marks a significant milestone for Antonine House Care Home, being built on Roman Road, Bearsden, Glasgow.

But as part of the Antonine Wall is located on the site, the planning and design process has had to be sensitively managed and developed.

The 81-bed facility, which will provide care for people with general nursing needs including those with dementia and its related conditions, will be owned and operated by family-run care provider Meallmore Ltd.

Antonine House, on a site opposite Bearsden Roman Baths, will be the company’s twentieth care facility to date.

Gerry Hennessey of Meallmore Ltd said: "The arrival of the crane is a significant visible milestone and an exciting step forward. It will be great to see it in action as blocks of the care home start to evolve over the coming weeks."

Muir Construction is the main contractor for the project and McLennan Partnership Ltd is the architect.

Work on the three-and-a-half storey facility began in January 2012 and it is expected to be completed by December.

Each floor within Antonine House will have bedrooms and associated living accommodation with a number of high-tech and luxury finishes.

Additional features will include a cinema room, hairdressing and beauty salon, external roof terraces, underfloor heating and a duel heating system that comprises natural gas and biomass.
