£3m Dalkeith Health Centre Opens

A £3m health centre was official opened in Midlothian this week, becoming the latest in a list of Scottish capital investment projects.

The Dalkeith Health Centre houses GP services as well as providing podiatry, physiotherapy, midwifery, speech therapy and community psychiatric nurses.

David Small of NHS Lothian said the "modern, high-quality facility" was a delight to showcase.

He said: "The centre brings a range of healthcare services under one roof and I'm confident that patients, their relatives and friends will enjoy the many benefits that this new, excellent facility has to offer."

The building includes a physiotherapy gym and garden and a centre for older people next door has been rebuilt in the development.

Danny Grant of principle contractors Interserve said: "There was a special relationship that existed throughout this project between all those involved and we are proud to see the end product being enjoyed by the local community."

Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon officially opened the centre, which began treating patients in September last year, and said: "Investment in health is a top priority for the Scottish Government and the continued delivery of our plans to improve capital infrastructure demonstrates the depth of our commitment to the NHS in Scotland."

More than £1.5bn is to be invested in improvements to NHS buildings over the next three years.

Other capital schemes planned for the coming year include improvements to more than eighteen health buildings, including New Southern General in Glasgow, Nuclear Medicine Facilities at Ninewells, Dundee, and Royal Victoria Hospital in Edinburgh.
