'Exciting' Plans For West Aberdeen

Proposals for a new 165-hectare development west of Aberdeen City were announced today.

Plans for the mixed-use community at Countesswells include 3,000 new homes – some affordable housing - and 10 hectares of employment land.

The development is allocated in the adopted Aberdeen Local Development Plan (ALDP), which requires the area to meet strategic land requirements and address population and employment needs.

Aberdeen City is required to allocate land for a total of 36,000 new homes and 175 hectares of employment land by 2030.

The Countesswells development will also feature community facilities, local shops, a GP surgery, sports facilities, public transport facilities and schools.

It will be built by the Countesswells Consortium which comprises property developer Heron Property, construction company the Stewart Milne Group, and property developer Ian Suttie, trading as IDJ properties.

Marianne McGowan from the Consortium said: "The delivery of a new community at Countesswells is one of the most exciting developments to take place in Aberdeen for a generation. We look forward to meeting with the local community over the next months to get their feedback."

Community engagement events as follows will feed into the plans before the Consortium applies for planning permission.

Thursday 14th June – 2pm-8pm - Hilton Aberdeen Treetops, 161 Springfield Road, Aberdeen.

Friday 15th June – 2pm-8pm - Fourmile House, Old Skene Road, Kingswells, Aberdeen.

Saturday 16th June – 10am-4pm - Cults Academy, Quarry Road, Cults.

If planning permission is approved it is expected work will start on the site by 2014 and be completed over a period of 15 years.
