Country house gem, the Roxburghe Hotel and Golf Course in Kelso, has undergone a major transformation of its public rooms by London interior designers, Leveson Design.
By retaining the country house charm while bringing style and comfort up to date, the designer has refreshed and revitalised the rooms bringing a contemporary twist.
This unique hotel with 22 bedrooms, a championship golf course and the full range of sporting pursuits on the Roxburghe Estate, offers a getaway destination little more than an hour’s drive from both Edinburgh and Newcastle. Much loved as a retreat for those enjoying shooting and fishing, the hotel is also the perfect place for a relaxing weekend.
The refurbishment has focused on classic comfort and style, from the bespoke carpet woven in the family tartan to the Isle of Bute tweed-covered chairs and sofas. The colours and tones used within the refurbishment echo the outdoors and bring the earthy tones of the estate into the rooms themselves.
General Manager, Duncan Evans said: "Guests at the Roxburghe love to fall into our comfortable sofas, relax and enjoy the views, or just have a dram by the fire after a day shooting or fishing. This refurbishment is both an investment in our guests’ ongoing comfort and in the future of the hotel itself – bringing us up to date while retaining our own well-loved style."
Cindy Leveson commented: "By using the best of Scottish textiles on some of the gorgeous antique furniture and introducing new accessories such as the lamps and pictures, we have really made a difference to the Roxburghe. Comfort and style have been the keywords in this project and we have brought the Victorian rooms back to life, with the use of gorgeous colours and patterns. We retained the personal touches that give this hotel its character, while creating a gentle mix of old and contemporary, creating both unique and comfortable spaces."
The bedrooms, many of which feature four poster beds and some with log fires, offer a homely yet aristocratic retreat coupled with award winning dining, roaring fires and some special wines selected by the Duke from the cellars of nearby Floors Castle. New head chef, Neville Merrin, is bringing his unique approach to the Roxburghe, with a focus on local produce and foraging from the Estate, creating superb new dishes which will take dining at the hotel to the next level.
It is the Duke and Duchess’s personal touches that make Roxburghe so special. From the furnishings, books and paintings from the Duke’s own home, to his hand on the wine list, golf experience and country pursuits, Floors Castle to their influence on the accommodation and impeccable standards of service, the hotel is a true home from home with character and personality throughout.
