East Lothian Council has secured Scottish Government funding for loft and cavity wall insulation.
Households are entitled to the free energy saving measures under the East Lothian Council Free Insulation Offer, delivered through the Scottish Government’s Home Energy Scotland Hotline.
Although winter chills are now a distant memory, many households are still paying off last winter’s energy bill. Loft insulation can save up to £175 a year, while cavity wall insulation can save up to £135 – with energy prices showing little sign of falling, insulating offers an easy route to lower costs as well as cosier, more comfortable homes.
If insulation isn’t the right option for a household there’s also free impartial advice on other grants and offers that could help instead. Selected parts of East Lothian got free insulation in 2010 and 2011, and the campaigns were a success in areas like Tranent and Musselburgh, meaning the offer has now been made available to as many people as possible in its final phase.
Call the Home Energy Scotland Hotline now to avoid missing out, as funding will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. 76 year old Agnes Ross from Tranent was ‘delighted’ with the difference the insulation made to her home last winter. She said: “Yes, the house is very much warmer now. I haven’t had to put the heating up at all in the last few weeks. Now that I know it makes the house warmer I would definitely recommend getting it done!”
Aside from being a homeowner or private tenant there are no other criteria to meet – the only condition is that the property can take the insulation. Householders can book a free no-obligation survey by calling the Home Energy Scotland Hotline free on 0800 512 012 or by texting ‘WARM’ to 81025 to register for a call back.
