Local people are being asked for their views on the future development of land in West Dunbartonshire.
West Dunbartonshire Council's Local Development Plan is the document used by the Council to identify development opportunities for new housing, industry and retail. It also looks at areas that need to be protected from development, such as open space, the green belt and nature conservation sites.
Officers have now completed the first phase in preparing a Local Development Plan by identifying the main issues currently facing the area, along with options for addressing these. When preparing this Main Issues Report, officers heard from a wide range of people and organisations including Community Councils, developers and landowners. Many of the suggestions made have been identified as options in the report.
Now the Council is seeking local people's views on the issues contained in the report, which include options for key development sites such as Lomondgate and Queens Quay; whether an affordable housing policy is required; and whether new land should be allocated for housing.
Jim McAloon, Head of Regeneration and Economic Development, said: "This report shows that the Council is facing up to the big issues relating to how land is used in West Dunbartonshire, such as how we get development on our key regeneration sites.
"We have identified different options for tackling these issues, many of which have been suggested to us by the community and developers. It is an excellent opportunity to have an open and transparent discussion to explore these issues and I would encourage everyone to have a look at the Main Issues Report and let us know your views."
The consultation period will run for 12 weeks from 30 March until 22 June 2012.
