Lovell has received three national Considerate Constructors awards for two high-rise refurbishment schemes for Glasgow Housing Association and a new-build regeneration development in Craigmillar, Edinburgh, for joint venture company PARC.
The Considerate Constructors Scheme awards recognise construction teams displaying excellent standards of consideration towards their neighbours, their workforce and the environment.
Pictured at the awards presentation are, on left, Mark Elliott, Lovell site manager for the Wauchope Square, Edinburgh, scheme and Alex Rankin, site manager for the schemes at Charles Street and Kestrel Avenue in Glasgow.
Lovell won the prized silver Considerate Constructors award for its work on a block of flats in Charles Street, installing new kitchens and bathrooms for Glasgow Housing Association. As part of Lovell’s commitment to working with communities, a number of events were held for local school students including health and safety presentations.
In addition, Lovell refurbished bike sheds at St Ninian’s Primary School. Also in Glasgow, Lovell received a bronze award for a similar refurbishment scheme at a high-rise block in Kestrel Avenue.
In Edinburgh, Lovell has been presented with a bronze Considerate Constructors award for its sensitive approach to the ongoing development of 58 homes at Wauchope Square in Phase 8 of a regeneration development by joint venture company PARC on behalf of Link Housing Association. Community initiatives by Lovell during the construction programme have included organising tours of the development site for children at St Francis RC Primary and Niddrie Mill Primary schools.
All three projects were independently monitored against the Considerate Constructors Scheme code of practice which requires companies to minimise the impact of construction work on the local environment, work safely and liaise closely with the local community. The award assessors described the projects as a ‘credit to Lovell and to the site team’.
Lovell regional director Alan Taylor said: "These awards underline the hard work and dedication of our teams and their commitment to working closely with residents and the community. I am absolutely delighted that the Considerate Constructors Scheme has recognised their achievements."
Considerate Constructors Scheme chairman Robert Biggs said: "Since the Considerate Constructors Scheme started some 15 years ago we have been privileged to witness an extraordinary transformation in the industry, hugely exceeding our own expectations. "Companies of every size have made exceptional commitments to the principles of considerate construction, and as a result have made the UK industry a world leader in considerate standards. It would, perhaps, have been understandable if the very difficult economic situation had caused standards to fall a little in recent times, but in fact the candidates for the 2012 National Site Awards have proved the complete opposite. Innovation and sheer effort clearly thrive in all areas and the bar has been raised yet again. The award winners this year should be particularly proud of their achievement, and I congratulate them heartily."
