William Lippe Architects Win Accolade

A leading North east architecture and space planning firm is celebrating after scooping an accolade in a prestigious North east awards scheme.

Inverurie-based William Lippe Architects received a commendation at the recent Aberdeen Society of Architects’ (ASA) awards, sponsored by timber product supply company Russwood Ltd.

The commendation was received in the Health, Education & Leisure section of the awards for work on Inverurie’s Les Enfants Nursery which was designed by William Lippe Architects and constructed by fellow Inverurie-based firm Tor Ecosse.

Facilities at Les Enfants Nursery include a spacious and secure outdoor play area and innovative indoor play area. Open plan rooms are furnished with sensory equipment for children to experiment with touch and sound, and top-of-the-range equipment, toys and learning resources are regularly updated to provide plenty of challenges and stimulation.

Commenting on the building, William Lippe Architects’ Associate Architect Eleanor Alexander said: "The main focus of this building was on fun and creating a unique building which provides an attractive and welcoming environment for children.

"For example, haphazard positioning of small square windows provides a view of the outdoors for children of all ages and small protecting ‘snug’ areas offer interesting and cosy spaces for children to explore or enjoy quiet time.

"Stripes, curves and bold colours create a fascinating elevation to stimulate imagination and large open-plan spaces allow the interior spaces to be flexible in use."

Founded in 1985, William Lippe Architects employ 13 staff and provide top quality, professional architectural, space planning and associated services from inception to completion to residential and commercial clients throughout Scotland.

Established in 2011, the Aberdeen Society of Architects’ (ASA) annual awards aim to recognise the growing number of innovative and exciting new buildings in the North East of Scotland. Entry is open to architects who complete work within the ASA area, regardless of building size or type, with the key focus on demonstrating innovation and design excellence.
