Paint brand Johnstone’s has joined forces with Barr Construction to provide a community centre in Glasgow with a stunning makeover.
The two companies have donated 200 litres of Johnstone’s Covaplus Vinyl Matt Emulsion, Vinyl Silk Emulsion and Professional Gloss in Brilliant White to bring the Kinning Park Complex (KPC) bursting back into life.
The building has stood proudly in the south side of Glasgow since the early 1900s and after initially being used as a primary school it was transformed into a centre for use by local residents in 1977.
However, the centre has been in dire need of a makeover for some time now and Johnstone’s and Barr Construction, who have a framework agreement in place, pledged to donate enough paint to restore the building as part of their corporate social responsibility programmes.
Colin Begg, visual artist and director of Kinning Park Complex, said: "At a time when money is tight, support from Barr Construction and Johnstone’s makes a tremendous difference to our facility.
"There is so much going on at KPC for local people and we’re starting to drum up a bit of a reputation as the place to be in the arts community so keeping the place in decent nick is really important to us to keep attracting users."
Barclay Chalmers, managing director of Barr Construction, said: "We understand how important KPC is as a resource for the local community.
"Barr is committed to working with local communities to support initiatives which provide resources for people and generate training and employment opportunities."
The Johnstone’s Decorating Centre on Watt Street, near to Kinning Park, supplied the paint and Phil Moss, Johnstone’s Specification Development Manager for Scotland and the North West, said: "We had absolutely no hesitation in stepping forward and supplying the paint when we were informed of how valuable a resource KPC is to so many local residents.
"We hope our paint will give the centre a new lease of life and that many more people can continue to enjoy the building."
