Cernach housing association will be working in partnership with Cruden Building and Renewals Limited to construct a £2million new-build housing development in Drumchapel.
A total of 22 homes will be created at Dunkenny Road in Drumchapel, and will transform derelict land into a vibrant new community.
The project will comprise of eight cottage flats, six Homelink community care flats, and a further eight Homelink cottage flats and semi-detached houses.
More than 20 years ago contractors CBRL, MAST Architects and Surveyors TJ Ross broke ground on the first CHA development in Drumchapel to begin the first regeneration project at Kells Place. Almost 21 years later, the partners are now working together again to deliver this final project on behalf of CHA.
To mark the historic occasion a ‘sod’ cutting ceremony was held on site Thursday, March 15. Cruden’s John White, who attended the very first CHA and CBRL ‘sod’ cutting in 1992 was on hand to officially launch the development.
Cernach’s Director, Jean Thomson and Marion Davidson, Chairperson were also in attendance along with representatives from MAST Architects and TJ Ross.
Since Cernach Housing Association was established in 1991, CHA has provided 393 improved and new build homes through its development programme, creating a diverse range of housing for rent, sale, shared ownership and care in the community.
The Dunkenny Road project will integrate Glasgow’s social care housing priorities within mainstream housing and will help re-dress the balance of housing type and size available. In addition, the development will remove a large expanse of derelict land which has been a blight on the landscape and will dramatically improve the local environment.
The designs for the 14 special needs properties at Dunkenny Road were developed in close consultation with Glasgow City Council Homelink and have been purpose-built for the end users in mind.
John White of Cruden Building and Renewals Ltd, said: "I’m pleased to be a part of the final CBRL and CHA partnership project and to return to the area after breaking ground on the first development in 1992. Cruden Building and Renewals Limited is proud to have been a part of CHA’s development programme and help to regenerate derelict homes as well as provide new dwellings to dramatically increase the diversity of housing on offer to local residents."
Jean Thomson, Director at Cernach Housing Association, said: "We’re delighted that all our partners, MAST Architects, Quantity Surveyor TJ Ross and contractors Cruden Building and Renewals Limited, who facilitated the start of our ambitious development programme back in 1992 are part of our latest project. It is fitting that they joined us in witnessing the start of the construction of the project that will complete our development programme and will enhance our earlier investment in the area."
The 40 week build project commenced on March 12th 2012, with final completion scheduled for January 2013. Project funding has been provided by an Innovation and Investment Grant, a loan from the Clydesdale Bank and Cernach’s own resources.
