West Dunbartonshire councillors were delighted this week to see the first sod being cut on the site of the new £90,000 Milton Community Hall.

The hall will be built on King George’s Field in the heart of Milton is expected to be completed by the end of April, weather permitting. It is a welcome sight for residents who have worked with the Council for some years to build a facility that meets the needs of local people.

The timber framed hall, which will be fitted with tea-making facilities and toilets, will be used by community groups and local residents and will be an ideal venue for local community events.


Cllr William Hendrie, Convenor of Housing said: "I am delighted to see work begin on this project as I know how important it is to the people of Milton. It is great to see the children of Milton will soon be getting a facility in the heart of their neighbourhood where they can start new clubs and meet new friends. On completion the hall will be available to the many groups in Milton and benefit many generations to come."

The Council has been working with residents in Milton since 2008 to agree the development of the new facility and ensure it was tailored specifically to the needs of the residents.

The contract was awarded to Brick and Steel Construction by the Tendering Committee in December last year.
