Three young construction workers from Aberdeenshire based specialist natural stone contractor Kirk Natural Stone Developments Ltd, have recently completed the installation of new granite facades to the Schoolhill and George Street entrances of the Bon Accord Centre in Aberdeen on night shifts.
Project Manager Tom Kirk, 25, stonemason Calum Lumsden, 25, and site assistant Lewis Adams, 27, have successfully completed all site works required for the installation of the new 40mm granite rainscreen facades. The new granite facings are fixed back onto the building structure using specially made stainless steel brackets requiring installation with millimetre precision.
Tom Kirk commented: "The Bon Accord Centre has been a challenging contract due to the variable nature of the existing building structure and that fact that all works had to be carried out under floodlights at night, but we have managed to find solutions to all problems and produce a very high quality finished job."
Kirk Natural Stone Developments managing director Dr Martin Kirk said: "The successful completion of such a demanding high profile contract by such a young team is a real credit to the lads. In these hard times for the construction industry and with record unemployment amongst young workers at all levels, it’s really heartening that we have a young team trained entirely in house, who are capable of carrying out this type of specialist stoneworks to the highest of standards."
The new granite facades form part of an extensive makeover of the Bon Accord shopping centre, which also includes internal works. Kirk Natural Stone Developments undertake a wide variety of natural stone construction projects throughout the UK, many of which are profiled on their website at www.kirknaturalstone.com
