A Moray-based visual artist has been commissioned to create a piece of public art for a new housing development in Kemnay.
Mary Bourne has been chosen to create the art which will form the centrepiece of the Cairn View development in Kemnay which comprises 54 two, three, four and five bedroom family eco-homes.
Cairn View is being created by Huntly-based Deveron Homes which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year.
With previous clients ranging from Dundee City Council to the city of Nanao in Japan, Mary has extensive experience in creating art for the public to enjoy, with natural stone her favoured medium. Other sites where her work is on show include Eden Court Theatre in Inverness and the Scottish Poetry Library in Edinburgh.
Commenting on Mary’s involvement in the Cairn View development, Deveron Homes’ sales director Lynne Holburn said: "Cairn View is a flagship development with very distinctive architecture.
"Enhancing our residents’ quality of life is important and we are delighted to be providing a peaceful, open space featuring a piece of public art as the centrepiece."
Lynne continued: "Mary Bourne was chosen from a list of potential candidates as her ideas best reflected the cultural and historic character of Kemnay, as well as the village’s future aspirations and changing form.
"A key element of the design will be to create an art feature that will resonate with local people and promote pride in their community. The project also hopes to maximise community involvement by linking with local school pupils to explore the subjects of design and public art."
Mary Bourne, who is based near Dufftown, added: "Kemnay is famous for its granite. I hope we will be able to explore the area’s tradition of skill in this beautiful material to make an artwork that everyone will be able to enjoy."
