Up to 16,000 private properties in Grangemouth, Denny and Bonnybridge are eligible to receive free loft and/or cavity wall insulation from Falkirk Council following an £800k award from the Scottish Government.
Allocated on a first come, first served basis, the scheme, which is not means tested (operated by Home Energy Scotland) is available to anyone living in these areas in a suitable private property that doesn’t currently have adequate standards of insulation.
The savings could be big – up to £155 on energy bills as well as costs of fitting loft insulation of between £100-£350 and cavity wall insulation costing between £150 to £350 depending on the property size.
Cllr Jim Blackwood, Convener of Housing and Social Care said: "This is a completely free offer to 16,000 householders that can offer benefits for many years to come.
"The process is straightforward, installation only takes a maximum of a few hours and the work is to a high standard from an approved contractor.
"There’s also an opportunity to receive a free home energy check from trained advisors who can suggest ways for you to improve your energy efficiency and help save you money."
The Council embarked on a programme of upgraded insulation last year targeting the areas in highest fuel poverty/carbon emissions (Rural North, Stenhousemuir and Larbert) and it is expected that other areas will be rolled out next year subject to Scottish Government Funding.
"We already have our own ongoing scheme with council tenants but this offer allows private householders to benefit as well," he added.
