Brechin Community Campus Engagement Workshop Launched

Community groups and organisations are being invited by Angus Council to contribute to the design and development of a new community campus in the burgh.

The new campus will incorporate the replacement for Brechin High School, enhanced community leisure facilities, and a performance space and accommodation for adult learning and youth activities.

Angus Council is running an engagement workshop specifically for the community in the main assembly hall in Brechin High School on Tuesday 31 January from 6.45pm to 9pm.

Urging community groups and organisations to take part in the event, the council’s Education spokesman Councillor Peter Nield, said that the development is at a crucial stage and members of the community have a vital contribution to make.

"We are inviting our partners within the community to work with us to contribute to the design for this exciting new facility," he said.

"We want to ensure that we get the best design possible; one which will live up to the community’s hopes and aspirations."

At the workshop representatives from community groups will be invited to:

* Make suggestions for the type of activities that might take place on the new campus; and

* Identify some of the new opportunities that having the new facility will create for the people of Brechin and the surrounding area.

"It is only by working with the local community that we will find out what people want from the campus and be in a position to create a design which is capable of delivering as many of these aspirations as possible," added Councillor Nield.

"There are many people who have ideas, knowledge and experience that can help ensure that we get the best possible community campus for Brechin. That’s why we hope that as many community groups as possible are represented at the workshop."

The workshop on 31 January, is just the first in a series of engagement events that will run at key stages until the new community campus opens in 2015.

Over the next few months workshops will be held with school parent councils, children and young people.

It is also intended to bring groups of staff, young people, parents and community members together to do more detailed work to feed into the concept design for the community campus.

Invitations to participate in the workshop have been issued to community groups and organisations in the Brechin area. If your group haven’t received an invitation but would like to attend, please contact Susan Hunter on 01307 476345 or email huntersj@angus.gov.uk.

If you are not able to come along on 31 January, but are interested in contributing to the design and development of the community campus, you can still get in touch with the council with your views.
