Annandale Estates Provides Warmer Homes

Annandale Estates has successfully carried out an innovative insulation treatment for a number of their tenants.

The traditionally built properties comprised solid masonry walls, strapped and lined internally which were treated by licensed Icynene contractor eco Insulate Ltd. The process has involved spraying or injection of a water blown foam to walls and under solid floors to ensure complete coverage of the areas being treated.

The Estate said: "We have always been conscious of the need to reduce heat loss from our properties but it’s become more critical now in light of the recent hikes in energy costs. The properties, which the Government now recognise as falling into the Hard to Treat category have previously been difficult to insulate with conventional materials but this solution helped to improve them and reduce the fuel bills of tenants.

"In each case the work was completed within one day without the need for the occupants to move out." They continued. "It was an added benefit that eco Insulate Ltd is a local contractor which reflects our commitment to the surrounding community. We were also reassured by the fact that the company is listed in the Suppliers Directory of the Scottish Land and Estates website."

Annandale Estates believe that well insulated properties can help bring back into use empty or non effective buildings as it makes them more desirable to rent.

Says Bryan Woods, MD of Eco Insulate Ltd, said: "We are pleased to have successfully completed a number of projects for Annandale Estates and Icynene foam’s green credentials link well with their preference for sustainability and the use of environmentally friendly materials. "The product doesn’t slump or sag which makes it an ideal long term investment benefitting both the Estate and their tenants. For any Landowner investing in their properties whether these are employees homes, workshops or tourist facilities, Icynene foam provides effective insulation and an air barrier in one application."

Annandale Estates have also chosen to use the material for a new build extension adjoining their offices at St Ann’s near Johnstonebridge, Dumfries and Galloway. They have been working closely with their consultants to achieve a design which will be a cost effective, modern and comfortable building.
